UPSCALE RETIREMENT LIVING

Wellmore redefines aging

BY LORRAINE AIKEN

Adjacent to the Daniel Island Club and nestled among sweeping oak trees overlooking Beresford Creek, is Wellmore of Daniel Island, the first luxury retirement community in Daniel Island. Opening in early 2018, Wellmore of Daniel Island will offer a full continuum of care services, including assisted living villa apartments, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation services, in 205,000 square feet of beautifully designed living spaces.

The lifestyle at Wellmore is centered around the belief that anyone, at any age, in any condition can improve the quality of their life. To achieve this goal, Wellmore embraces a wellness philosophy in all parts of the community, through awardwinning wellness programs, fine dining and a bustling social calendar. In addition to the excellent services provided, the community pays homage to our region with its unique blend of old-world Southern charm and resort-style amenities.

Timeless Aesthetic
“Our design goal was simple,” says Gina Gaines, the senior design specialist with the Maxwell Group Inc., Wellmore’s parent company. “We wanted a place for our members to feel at home in an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming and peaceful.” The design team was also determined to honor the heritage of Charleston and Daniel Island.

Choosing materials, finishes and colors that are upscale but reflect the history and coastal proximity of the region was a priority. “The colors we chose were meant to evoke the Lowcountry and the sense of calm that comes from the ocean. Most of the fabrics are linen and cotton blends, fibers that are historically important to this area,” says Gaines. To achieve that perfect touch of Southern charm, the community was personalized with antique furniture, accessories, artwork and fabrics.

Throughout the community, art has been the tie that binds all of the décor. “A lot of time was dedicated to selecting artwork. We wanted community members and their families to get a sense of the island’s history through this artwork,” says Gaines. “Our team sought out local artists and historians with ties to the region, and we commissioned original oil pieces and original artwork.” The “History Wall,” a visual record of regional history, photographs and artwork, was brought together with the help of a local historian and member of the South Carolina Historical Society, Michael K. Dahlman, and The United States National Archives. The wall is the focal point of the main entrance and will be on display in the clubhouse. (The clubhouse will play a central role to life at Wellmore, housing the fine dining restaurant, salon and spa, activity room, café/bar and study.)

Upscale Services and Amenities Under One Roof

Wellmore’s executive director, Ashley Seeds, is looking forward to welcoming the new members and their families. “The Wellmore brand is synonymous with excellence in senior living,” she says. “We’re here to provide the highest level of care for our members. The advantage of Wellmore is that no matter your age, you’ll never have to move again.” Why? The care services provided (assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation) are all located within the community, so members never have to relocate to access their required care; it’s all under one roof in an upscale setting. At Wellmore, fewer responsibilities means more fun. Living here is truly “maintenance free.” There’s no need to spend time on housework, cleaning or cooking because maintenance and repairs, housekeeping and deep cleaning are all included.

With more time and less worries, the Wellmore lifestyle is to be enjoyed. Members of the community aren’t put on a schedule. They have the freedom to enjoy the things they love most. This includes having a cocktail with friends at the fully stocked bar, sampling new cuisines and old favorites prepared fresh by the executive chef, taking part in a community club activity or going out to enjoy a local musical performance. Wellmore of Daniel Island is Wellmore’s third property. Wellmore of Lexington, South Carolina, opened in May 2017, and Wellmore of Tega Cay, South Carolina, in June 2015. Wellmore is owned and operated by Maxwell Group, Inc., based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
