Dress for Success

The Bridal House of Charleston takes the pressure out of dress shopping

BY ERICA JACKSON CURRAN

Being a bride can be stressful, and choosing a wedding dress is one of the most high-pressure parts of the wedding-planning process. But the close-knit team behind The Bridal House of Charleston is committed to making the experience as relaxing and pleasant as possible.

Tucked away in a quiet Mount Pleasant shopping center, the boutique has been serving Lowcountry brides since 1986. Owner Yvonne Chadwick says customer service is key for the shop. “We’re not about pressure sales,” she says. “We want our brides to take their time and be comfortable while they’re here.”

The Bridal House stocks a range of dresses at various price points. “We try to cover every style, so we can go from a very casual, beachy, short dress to a very formal, heavily beaded ball gown,” Chadwick says. “We like to appeal to everyone’s budget, so if someone comes in looking for a more affordable dress, we’ll do our best to help them find something, even if it’s a bridesmaid’s dress that we’ll order in an ivory or white.”

That doesn’t mean the shop doesn’t carry its share of couture. Some of its most popular designers include Justin Alexander, Justin Alexander Signature, Liz Simon and Lillian West.

“Walk-ins are always welcome,” Chadwick says: We want the experience to be enjoyable.
